A call to action! (Part 2 - More specifics)

Posted on Sep 8th, 2008 by VeganTriathlete : Hopeful Change Agent VeganTriathlete
This is a follow-up to A call to action! (Attention angel investors/venture capitalists).

I am looking for 160 people to invest $10,000 each. That gives me a pool of $1,600,000.00.

My plan would be to ultimately purchase 10 houses at an average of $160,000 each. I will do further research and post another blog with details on specific properties that would meet the necessary criteria; I'll get in touch with a realtor today. We would charge $1000/month rent on each of the houses. I would be paid $300/month/house, which would equal a salary of $36,000/year. My salary could come from drawing $300 out of the $1000 rent. This would leave $700/month/house that could go toward ongoing maintenance costs and "dividends" on the investors' money. I think we should set up a for profit corporation to serve as the official business entity and clearing house. I would be an employee of the corporation. We would choose from the investors to be members of the board.

I would seek out and work with various social service agencies in the area to target specific street people who would be the best candidates for this venture. One specific agency I have in mind is Stand Up for Kids (http://www.standupforkids.org).

As far as why you should trust me with this idea, I would be willing to post tax returns of mine, specifically ones from the time I was self-employed as a computer programmer, so that you can develop a sense of confidence that I know how to run a business. I would also post the medical bills for my two dogs (you know about them if you've read previous blogs) so that you may see that I truly have a pure heart. Just to summarize the story with my two dogs: Tofu has had about $10,000 of surgery, immunotherapy, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. She was a stray pit/boxer mix I rescued when I was in Illinois. Her picture is the one I use for my avatar. I've been her daddy for just over 6 years. Zen has had about $9,000 of surgery and exams for an abdominal obstruction he had when I adopted him from Colorado Humane Society. He looks like he's  mostly pit to me. I've been his daddy for about six months. If you read other blogs of mine, you will see that I've been involved in major projects on my property. I had no prior experience with any of this stuff; all of these projects have been learn-as-I-go. So, I've got the brains, heart  and talent; I just need the financial backing.

I don't recall how many people are members of this site; I thought the login page used to show the number. Anyway, the best I can recall, 160 is about 1% of the people on this site.

Who will be the 1% of this population who are ready to put your beliefs and money into action?

Peace,
Marc

Research on government grants and funding.  You might be able to get financing from them.  Good luck!
